To possibly tell the story of your own, very interesting life, particularly for the benefit of your children and grandchildren. Or the experiences of some of your relatives, either living now or in the dim and distant past. Many of whom – both men and women – will have served in World Wars I & II. What a really great inspiration for their families, to be able to read about such amazing stories, today!
Or, perhaps the long and interesting life of a grandparent, whom you loved? Or, the extra-ordinary time when, maybe enjoying what should have been a restful holiday, you or a member of your family were suddenly caught up in a surprising and completely unexpected adventure.
All very dramatic! But nearer to home, there are countless stories just waiting to be told. Such as the story of a Great Uncle, who recently passed away. His family were very sad, but also shocked to discover amongst his papers, a treasure-trove of medals; together with press cuttings about his bravery, outstanding valour and hazardous life as a soldier in World War II. Such an important and exciting episode in his long life, having been totally unknown to the remaining members of his family.
Even in the present day, there are so many people who have found themselves either trapped in their own home, or restrained abroad under quarantine, due to Covid-19. There are also a large number of families who have managed brilliantly; surviving most of the problems caused by the various stages of Lockdown. In fact, a private account of that time will, I predict, become a valuable addition to a Family Archive in the years to come.
Which is why I can’t help thinking that this seems to be the absolutely, perfect time to think about writing your own story. Or as a wonderful gift for someone you know. I’ve had many clients contacting me, asking for some assistance with writing a memoir. If only, they say, to help make sense of their own lives, in what has lately seemed to be such a very difficult and confusing world.
The cost of the Memoir Service is from £250 to £500, depending on the work involved. This includes a 30 minute consultation, with the aim of helping you to plan and discuss your story, for a book of some 15,000 words. This individual, bespoke service, will also include two further Zoom calls and I will closely monitor your progress. I will help you to plan the layout of your book, containing possibly many old family photographs, right up to the stage when you decide which, of the many printing facilities to be found on the internet, will best suit your purpose.
